Wilhelm Schiertz

Franz Wilhelm Schiertz, born in Leipzig, was a German-Norwegian painter and architect. He studied under the Norwegian artist Johan Christian Klausson Dahl (1788–1857) in Dresden, specializing in landscape painting.

In 1836 he traveled to Norway to make architectural drawings of the stave churches in Borgund, Heddal and Urnes, which were later published in Dahl's book on Norwegian wooden architecture in 1837.

Schiertz's paintings first depicted idealized and meaningful landscapes, influenced by artists such as Dahl and Peder Balke. However, he did not follow a realist style like some of his contemporaries. As a result, his work gradually fell into oblivion over time.
